The cinema gods have smiled upon everyone that has been waiting on the premiere of Saint Maud ever since the trailer was released almost two years ago. Rose Glass’ debut feature was set to hit theaters in April 2020 but then COVID-19 reared its ugly head and the release was pushed to July.
Then that date was changed to Jan. 29 of this year. For those who are still unsure about attending movie houses, don’t fret. EPIX has you covered.
Saint Maud will be terrifying viewers on the network this Friday, Feb. 12 at 8 PM ET. Critics have been effusive about this Morfydd Clark starrer since the 2019 Toronto Film Festival. If by chance, you haven’t heard of this venture and are into genre films steeped in the supernatural like The Conjuring series and The Exorcist, then you will love this A24 chiller.
Glass’ production has earned 17 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards so expectations are high for this effort to do well at the US box office. Considering the pandemic is still raging on, the subject matter of the film is very topical.
Essential workers are on the frontlines putting their lives at risk to heal others. In the case of Maud, who is a lonely and undervalued hospice nurse, her spiritual well being is called into question when in the course of treating Amanda, a terminally ill patient, she becomes obsessed with saving her soul. However, the dark side has designs on her and sinister forces step in to thwart her plans.
The young caregiver is on a downward spiral which makes her increasingly paranoid. Should she be praying for her own redemption?
In addition to Morfydd Clark, the film also stars Jennifer Ehle, Lily Knight, Lily Frazer, Turlough Convery, Marcus Hutton and Rosie Sansom. If you want to see Saint Maud and you don’t have EPIX, you can take advantage of their current trial period for their app which runs for two months and the cost is only $.99 per month.
